Organise Your Collection?

Must the photographs be organised before digitisation?

It's just not necessary, as all the photos can be organised online.

If you wish, you can help the process, but it is not critical because the time that you save online, is time spent physically shifting photographs into different packets.

... and online, you can perform the task at any time, and anywhere... sat in an airport lounge, a cafe, or in your own home.

That's the beauty of having an accessible photographic history. It's available anywhere.
Any free time that you have... you can delve in... maybe improve it, or just have a look around.

The information below may help you better understand this.

Date & Time

When digitised, each photograph becomes an image file, dated at the time of digitisation.

We want the image to be dated according to when the photograph was taken.
Thankfully, online this is very easily achieved, for each group or packet of photographs.

Generally speaking, a roll of film would have been used within a year, and often within a few days.
Therefore applying a general date to a single group of photographs, will place it in a chronological order; and any out of place photos can simply be moved to the next group (or you would create new group for them).

From a physical perspective: perhaps 'on holiday' a new roll of film was started, and then not used again until another event.
By pulling a few photos from one packet, and placing them in the packet with similar period photos, you will have created a logical grouping.

This can be done, whilst filtering the photos, or it can be done online.

If you have the photographs in hand, and can find which packet they should best be in... then why not?
But it is not a major issue... some movement of photographs is always going to be required online, and it is easy enough to do.
