What is the purpose of a photograph?
An observation of life... a captured moment perhaps.
But what do we think, when we see a photograph... pleasant thoughts, or something else?
Turkana Girls
Like girls the world over, they just wanted a nice picture of themselves... and here it is:

We could also edit out the corrugated sheets, to make the picture even 'nicer'.
However, our thoughts are primarily with the girls... looking proud and confident (as they would want).
We certainly feel no pity.
What then, when we view the full image?

Barefooted on gravel, dirty feet, dirty clothes... and stood next to an open drain that is ideal for mosquito breeding.
Thankfully, they show good character, and appear to stand above their circumstances... but the tone of the picture has changed irreversibly.
